When the New Zealand Government proposed amending Section 59 of the Crimes Act to remove the “reasonable force” clause which was allowing violence to be inflicted upon children, there was increasingly farcical arguments to allow parents their “right to smack”. My response was to come up with a compromise: a way you could discipline your children without physically hitting them, done in the antiquated style the pro-smacking crowd’s outlook deserved.
